I would’ve commented on the donation incentives earlier, but I really didn’t know where I should talk about them. (I dunno if this is the right place for this thread at all – mods, feel free to move it to a more appropriate place.) I’m very very hesitant about starting threads (you can tell because I always start them sounding apologetic – damn, I’m doing it again. Bad Miriam, bad!), but after I saw in Barb’s livejournal that she hadn’t heard any feedback about January’s voting incentive – well, I felt that should be rectified.

So I never said it before, but I really enjoyed last month's voting incentive - the story was great (the kids are so cute – I love your characterization), and I love any backstory that makes me feel superior and more knowledgeable than other people (muahahah) (though of course it just provided more mystery and hints . . . ). Also, I'm actually studying Debussy this year at music school (>.<) so that connection was fun. (Also means I really do know somewhat the level of difficulty his music is, not that I’m a pianist by any stretch of the imagination – but I did play Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun two years ago. Love for Debussy ^^.) Just curious . . . did you have a personal reason for choosing Debussy besides the common first name? Or for choosing that piece? (I now know all this very random stuff about his life and music, part of the reason why I’m asking Wink)

And this month’s wallpaper is gorgeous, of course. How could it not be? Wink

I also wanted to say that YES, I think a subscriber backstory incentive comic would be a very awesome way to get more donations. I don’t know if it’s true for most people, but I much rather prefer stories or comics to backgrounds. Of course, I understand that it’s probably more work for you. I just wanted to let you know that I would definitely do a subscription sort of thing. We loves us some backstories and hints and mystery stuffs! Smile

(I had another thought – should I not be talking about the incentives on the forums at all because not everyone has seen them/read them? Or is that a good thing, because it’ll make them all curious and stuff? Twisted Evil)

"The firefly's?" said the minstrel.
"The spider's. The blinking arsonist had set the web on fire."

Yes, I was thinking about that too... Maybe if we're not too explicit?
Anyway:
Love, love, LOVE the story! So great to see little Charlie and his friends, I've been wanting to know more about Raj and Allie. It also confirms my suspicions, Barb is indeed far to talented for it to be fair.
And I now have Xylia gazing at me from my screen. She's so graceful...

I say this with as much meaning as I possibly can.

This month's desktop for the donation incentive is the best thing ever. Ever.

I have had the same desktop from another webomic since last march because I honestly could not find anything that even remotely made me think 'that would be better than what I have' .. but that has changed.

Sporting it on both of my 22 inch widescreen monitors I get to stare for hours at what is one of Barb's best pieces of art, the thing belongs on a wall in a museum. Looks like a painting.

So in short (that's short right?) .. donate this month. Get the best thing ever.

I must agree. I have loved both of the donation incentives thus far. I, too, immediately changed my desktop to my new Xylia wallpaper, and I haven't changed that wallpaper in over a year (because it was a photo that I took). This month's image of Xylia is incredible.

Barb, how long does it take you to add all of those sparkles??? That's insane!

<3,

Liria

Yep the Xylia desktop incentive is a great piece of art. Sure in the future it'll be in the wall of a museum. Anyway it's alredy in my girlfriends wardrobe door wich is more or less a Barb's art small museum.

Liria, i think Barb used a Photoshop brush with a sparkle pattern and for the foils in the background as well.
