So. Vacation. Family stuff. But more happily. Vacation.

My love (pixiestix!) and I got to see each other for the first time in a long long time. And while together we went to the milwaukee zoo. Which is an -awesome- zoo.

Unlike other zoos I've been too... you get to come right up to the animals. Even the big ones. Other zoos you see from far far far away and need the hubble telescope to figure out if that thing is cat shaped or elephant stage.

But here...

You're THAT close. That's outside by the way. There's just a wall on one side of that area with a window in it. And boy do the cats like to play near the windows.

So you can even

watch

them

rollover.

The cheetahs act like little kittens. And you kind of want to reach out and pet them. Good thing you can't, since you'd probably lose a hand.

What's also nice about being so close is.. you kind of lose perspective of just how BIG some of these animals are when viewed from so far away.

Until you get this close.

I swear, you could almost hear the footsteps of this thing. Godzilla style. "*Thoom* *thoom* *thoom*

Not to mention watching elephants eat pumpkins.

There are some drawbacks though. For instance. The kids like to get really close to the jaguars. And as such... they have taken to stalking the kids. I kid you not. pixiestix and I watched for awhile, trying to figure out why he was pacing so much. Then we noticed. He was -always- in front of children. Stalking them. He even took to sniffing the windows.

Wait, that's not a drawback huh? It's rather.. amusing...

OK.. drawbacks... drawbacks... how about thinking you're gonna get hit!

Such a fun moment. He was actually charging. Of course that fifteen foot pit was somewhat comforting.

And hippos are always fun.

But given we're ALL Disney fans here (hence Xylia love!) we get to end on a good lion king moment.

That's all for now folks. Hope you enjoyed the pictures.

Nice photos CT! I like the Jaguar... crazy thing...
I so know what you mean- we have the same thing at the Jerusalem zoo where I used to work. The monkeys LOVED it, & would sit there all the time... http://www.jerusalemzoo.org.il/len/apage/11041.php
Check out this pic from the zoo's web site- that's exactly what I'm talking about! we also had some exhibits where you would walk with the animals, I wonder if they still have that...
Anyway your trip looks like a lot of fun! I can hardly remember the last time I went to the zoo... Sad

Great picture, CT! It's amazing when you can get that close to the animals. We went to something similar, but for Scandinavian animals, last winter. Really cold, but fantastic.

Note! All pictures taken by Pixiestix.

... I unfortunately didn't think to bring a camera until it was too late. Sad

But thanks!

Those pictures are just so very awesome!! I`ve never ever seen any of those animals in real life (apart from a very tired circus-elephant once) but they look so awesome on photos without a doubt. Thanks for sharing - Ceri is now happy!

They're cool!!! Most of the zoo's here do that (how many's that....i think it might be ...hmm...three? wow, what a lot of zoo's... <---SARCASM Those'd be the Dubbo Zoo, the zoo in canberra and taronga. What sucks is they all have pretty much the same collection of animals!!! Although the aquarium section of the NAtional Zoo/Aquarium (Canberra) was pretty good. And those are the only major zoo's on the east coast of Oz peoples.

I have had work practis on a zoo once but i was to much of a coward to work with the more ecxitining animals. I choosed to work with animals that I atleast had worked with befor like sheep, goates and cows, don't ask why they have that kind of animals, thats skansen for you. That's what the first and probably the only time I had to walk a cow like you walk a dog. But it was fun even if i know regret my fear.

the only bad thing about having workpractis on Skansen is that they give sucky grades even if you work your arse off...

Zoo! I love the zoo. These photos are so fun. That rhino has one serious horn going on.
