Today I kinda feel like Charlie/Claude, I have to deal with the social insurance office which isn't always fun. How do you explain the fact that thanks to the nice people who likes to dress in white coats told your parents that some of your personality was part of a invisible problem that had a name and then stamped a diagnos on my forhead and told my parents that it was never going away and that I would only have to learn to live with it. And now that I am a grown up I have to explain my problems that can't be seen and that I never thought about because to me it has always just been me being me. :x
Sorry I orignally just came by to say I liked it and that I felt a bit like Claude looked like to feel in this but it kinda ran away from me. :(
It's just one of those days. :?

CT- thank you for the review. I did take out quite a bit of dialogue in the second to last panel- more 'arguing' from the doc, but decided against it. This page was very very difficult- part of the reason it took me so long to do. Its the pivot point of this chapter, and those are always hard. Especially when done in a low key way, and it just didnt come out how I saw it in my mind.

Silvara- Im very sorry to hear about what you are going through. Remember that your diagnosis is not YOU- it's something that 'walks' beside you. I found that giving it a 'personality' is a good way to remember that. ;-) Least for me sometimes.

I was on medication for 13 years for ADHD. Ritalin actually, which made things worse for me now. I was diagnosed when I was 5. Always remember, though. No matter how they diagnose you, you're still you, and don't ever let them medicate it out of you.

At first I thought that Charlies first line sounded rather stiff and not really like something you'd say. Then I looked at it again, and I got this vision if him rehearsing it over and over, trying out different things to say, maybe acting out the argument he imagined would follow in his head, imagining different scenarios... And then it absolutely works, that is precisely the sort of thing someone might say when they can't speak from their heart and have had too much time to phrase themselves.

Also: At the moment, I'm actually learning about "children in need of special support" (meaning everything from Downs syndrome to autism and ADHD). It's funny, though, how every book I read says that we "shouldn't deprive the child of it's culture by medication", and how so many people I meet have exactly that experience. Sad.

Ugh! I'm way late commenting, and only have a few seconds. Sorry, Barb! But I love this page, and I think it was worth all the time you had to put into it. I hope the next pages will be easier for you. :-)

Sorry to rush. It's been crazy at work and things look to be crazy for a little while longer. But please believe me, reading XYLIA helped brighten an otherwise dark few days and I love this new page!

That was exactly what I was going for- a gawky teenager speaking the rehearsed line he's being 'put up' to say.

Of course Charlie/Claude (also known as CC) is a bit gawky anyway. ^_^
