Pirates 3

Postby canterrain on Thu Jun 07, 2007 5:36 am

I figured I'd start the thread. Cause it will want to be talked about.

I finally saw it. (STILL need to see Spiderman 3... why oh why haven't I seen spiderman 3?)

I didn't actually want to see Pirates 3. Pirates 2 annoyed me so badly I thought there was absolutely no hope for Pirates 3 to be a good story. But I was dragged to see it.

... and I was honestly surprised. It was a -little- convoluted and full... but it was honestly good. Not quite as good as the first one. The first one was less.. full... but oh so fun. And while this movie had several literally laugh out loud moments, it just was missing some of the... fun... from the first movie. But all in all I'll end up buying it when it comes out on DVD.

I was a bit dissappointed with At World`s End actually. Not really sure why, probably a jumble of different factors. It certainly wasn`t the humour dragging it down in any case.
I guess it ended up being just a bit too long for my liking, and very packed from time to time. Also, it was slightly too much "magic and superstition" for me as well. Did not at all mind the way Elizabeth and Will ended up though, and Geoffery Rush, that wonderful, amazing, splendid man did not dissappoint me. The man is such a great actor and he does the part of Barbosa so well that I could skip in my seat if it were physically possible to skip while sitting.

The ending was funny, though I would rather have liked Jack to end up at The Black Pearl since he does love that ship so much, that being said him and Barbosa never could have co-existed on a ship when they didn`t have to anyway. I also found their bickering about captaincy hysterically funny. I will definetly end up buying it when it comes out on DVD - and have a Pirates of The Caribbean marathon. Because I can.

To finish off - one of the most funny scenes in the whole POTC-trilogy. I did laugh myself off my seat.

I'd actually expected a little more from Barbossa (although not from Geoffry Rush, that wonderful man, his performance was as brilliant as always), I mean, trying to strike a bargain with a sea goddess? Really, everyone knows you can't do that.
Well, you can try, but they're not very dependable. Maybe if she had been a sun goddess or something, but the sea? It's just not in their nature.

Liked nr 3 much better than nr 2, but the first is still the best. It's so bright and shiny! Although, of course, Will has never been as smexy as he is at the end of nr 3...

I assume all of you did stay to watch the end of the credits, as has only been right and proper for all 3 movies, yes? If not, you really missed something...

I liked the movie, but I felt it a bit long and a bit too convoluted. The first one was much simpler and still vastly entertaining. This one seemed to strain under the weight a bit. But, it was still a very fun ride. (Pun intended)

The only fault I found with this movie was the length. But, according to the KEZ rating scale of movies, PoTC 3 rated a "great waste of time." (as opposed to "good waste of," "adequate waste of," "barely worth the" and "not even worth the" time. In that order.")

*laugh* That sounds sort of like my Netflix 5 star rating system:

5 stars: I could watch this repeatedly and it never grow old.
4 stars: This is one of the best movies I've ever seen, but it doesn't have the repeatability. I have to be in the mood to watch it.
3 stars: Still a reasonable and decently well-made film, but not good enough to get 4 stars.
2 stars: I might watch this film if it were the only thing on television, but not otherwise.
1 star: I never want to see this piece of tripe again. Ever. No, seriously.

(I would save that for 0 stars, but you can't give something 0 stars technically, so 1 will have to do.)

Yep, I did watch the end of the credits, but I chose to forget I saw it because I prefered him buggering off. But I had expected one of those, because, it is a very, veeeeery dangerous thing to tick off shippers....

I for one was happy I saw this movie, loved the insaner Jack.
And Barbossa is one cool pirate so kuddos to the scriptwriters for reviving him.

Not sure what this is means, but when I first saw the movie I was very disappointed. It had one great scene, but that was about it. My daughter drug me back to it last Sunday, and it was better. I still don't think it's a good movie...it's okay...but I would very much like to see Jack reach Florida and see what happens next. :-)

Hmm... I guess I should watch the second and the third movie. I really liked the first one. No depth nor realism to mention, but it was splendidly entertaining. Excellent dialogue and some great, charismatic characters. Apparently the two later episodes aren't as good, but it's likely they're still well worth watching.

All right, I'll put the second one to download now.

Yep Krozam - do that! The first was by far the best, but that`s always the case with trilogies it seems. Still - the other two has some splendid entertainment value too and I wouldn`t call it a waste of time watching them. There are still very amusing parts, fights and backstabbing and double-morals! The story is just getting even more dodgy is all. The second movie has one of the most awesome endings - not only because it caused someone (not mentioning names of course....*cough*) to win a bet - but because it was simply, well, awesome.

Oh no, not always. Not for me, anyway. In LotR the first one was weakest of the three, the second one being slightly better than the third. Also, in Matrix the second one was the best, although the third one was clearly the worst.

The download is ready. I'll watch it when I've played through the NWN2 campaign (I didn't quite finish it the first time I played, and I wanted to start from the beginning, so it'll take a few days). Although I may watch Gedo Senki (the Earthsea movie Hayao Miyazaki's son directed) first.

That's funny, I practically always think the first part of movie serials are better. PotC, LotR, Matrix, Star Wars, Bourne, Ocean's (haven't seen Ocean´s 13 yet, though...)
I dunno, there's just a certain freshness to the ideas in the first of a series. And less money spent on special effects.

Not Shrek, though, Shrek 2 is definitely the best one!

Oh yeah, Star Wars. I liked the sixth (the third of the original series) best. I always liked Luke as a character, and it wasn't until the third one that he got to kick some a**. :P I still haven't seen Revenge of the Sith, so I can't say anything about the newer trilogy. Except that it isn't as good as the original, but not as bad as it's generally regarded either.

Matrix was quite full of interesting, almost new ideas, but the king of them all was that the prophecy was false. That - along with the fight scene where they played Rob Dougan's Chateau - made the second movie the best.

The LotR movies were all so good it's difficult to put them in some order, but the first one was least entertaning, the second one was most epic, and the third one disappointed me a bit with some things they left off from it. So, the second one was best.
