S.I,
I WISH the movie was using the armor from the 1960s. And 1970s. And 1980s. Iron Man hit upon a classic look, one that I think is still quite spiffy today. What it is in the movie appears to be an alloy (that may not be the right word, but I think it's clever) of a rash of new armor designs the character has gone through since the mid-1990s. All of them appear to be designed to look like someone stripped of their skin. Yuck! During the 1980s, Iron Man had his basic "classic" armor but then also a variety of specialized armor that spun off from that classic look (e.g., stealth armor, deep space armor, deep sea armor). I think you can see some of them at the Bob Layton website, which is, I think,
www.boblayton.com. Layton was the inker and sometimes penciller on IRON MAN during its 1980s golden period, and appears to still have a passion for the character.
