Iron Man (Trailer)

Postby Stevenpjones on Mon Sep 17, 2007 4:16 pm

Yes, it's only a trailer, but a friend of mine zapped me the link as soon as it came out on the Internet. Iron Man is my second favorite superhero character, and I've been wanting to see a movie with him in it for a long time. I had doubts since Robert Downey Jr. would not have been my first choice to play Tony Stark--that would be Jonathan Barrowman now that Timothy Dalton is too old--and this is not the classic Iron Man armor...but I loved it! Can't wait 'till May!

I am too young to have really heard much at all about Iron Man, which I think is one of its pitfalls. Then again, an unexploited superhero gets a film? That may actually be to its advantage, in retrospect. At least it's not another Superman, where it has expectations and quotas to fill.

...And I GUESS I oughta be stoked, since I am trying to get into film graphics. And those graphics ARE pretty shnifty...

"Too young?" Ouch! :-)

Marvel still prints the comic, Elle, and the character is a major player right now in whatever the latest multi-story crossover epic strum-and-drung whatzit Marvel is leaching off of this year. (Did that sound harsh?)

But, to be honest, the IRON MAN stuff I'm fond of is relatively "old" in Gen-X-Y-Z time. Primarlily late 1970s to late 1980s was the best run for the series.

The trailer does look really cool, though I also am not in the superhero/Marvel loop. (Whenever a superhero movie comes out I get my brother to tell me about how the characters really are in the comics, what the movies changed, etc. It's fun. :-P)

But I've gotta ask - who's your first favorite superhero character, if Iron Man is your second? :)

"The firefly's?" said the minstrel.
"The spider's. The blinking arsonist had set the web on fire."

That would be Iron Fist. (What, Steve? Don't you get enough iron?) I'm no fan of the current crop of comics coming out from Marvel, but back in the 1970s and 1980s Iron First was a cool character, combining superhero with sci-fi and epic fantasy. Unfortunately his storyline was never completed by the writer who started it, Chris Claremont.

Just went and found that trailer on youtube, it does look pretty awesome! The suit looks a bit... funny... Sorta 1960... Which I suppose it might be. But yeah. Um... we should have a youtube thread.

S.I,

I WISH the movie was using the armor from the 1960s. And 1970s. And 1980s. Iron Man hit upon a classic look, one that I think is still quite spiffy today. What it is in the movie appears to be an alloy (that may not be the right word, but I think it's clever) of a rash of new armor designs the character has gone through since the mid-1990s. All of them appear to be designed to look like someone stripped of their skin. Yuck! During the 1980s, Iron Man had his basic "classic" armor but then also a variety of specialized armor that spun off from that classic look (e.g., stealth armor, deep space armor, deep sea armor). I think you can see some of them at the Bob Layton website, which is, I think, www.boblayton.com. Layton was the inker and sometimes penciller on IRON MAN during its 1980s golden period, and appears to still have a passion for the character.

I just tried the Layton link. It works. The oranage and gold armor you see on his home page is the classic look I was referrint to.

I like IRON MAN a bit too much, don't I?

Ooh, shiny... I see what you mean about the suit. Laytons version looks much cooler.
