Steve had a suggestion that a Xylia 08 calendar might be an idea, but Im thinking it might be too early to try to do that. I think once there is more archive, more people might be interested, but I dont know.

WHat you all think.

It would require that I create a bunch of full blown spoilerific concept pieces with a slew of characters that haven't been introduced in the story yet. Is that a good idea?

Hmm, you've got another 4 months left this year...how many of those characters will be introduced? You could always wait a month or two, poll your audience to see what they'd think, or produce one of those 16-month calendars (so you could still sell it well into '08).

I think that with your art, you could probably do it, even this early. It never hurts to start thinking about merchandise early so you can be prepared when you really need it. Even if you didn't go forward with the calendar, if you had a bunch of prints already made, you could save them for later efforts or sell prints (either online or at conventions.)

No matter what, I think a calendar with spoilers would be popular

You could, also, sell a digital calendar. My brother is a member of 3D desktops UK (http://www.3ddesktops.co.uk/) who sell a monthly wallpaper calendar. It's just a nice image with a small calendar in the corner. You could sell one monthly for a couple bucks if you didn't want to make a print calendar. That way, you could even tailor the images to what would most "tease" all your readers.

My first thought: Calendar! And I will have the money to buy it! YAY!
But I guess it'll mean a lot of extra work for you?
I suppose it'll come out by the end of 2007, by which time Xylia will have been around for a bit. So it'll be reasonably established, we'll have seen more of the characters, and you'll have time to create more art.
Bottom line. I'd buy. Will you find it worth the effort? I dunno.

Ooo- a digital calendar. Never heard of that. The Cafe PRess calendars are a bit pricey, and by the time you tack on a wee bit for profit, it gets really expensive.

But if the art was spoilerish, maybe people would enjoy. THere woudl be a lot of faeries in it. But other critters too.

I had someone contact me on DD telling me I should advertise on SmackJeeves. This person went on to say that I should create a really nice banner- and that the people apparently like boys kissing- and Im thinking- Uhhh....did I give the impression that I was doing a yaoi comic? Anyway, that is another advertising possiblity. Maybe. (well not the boys kissing part...)

As far as new chars in the story...
Two will be popping up on the next page Monday.

But then it will be a bit before a couple more show up.

Then even longer for two more.

Anwyay, for spoilers I have some very neat ideas for images throughout several time lines. I could always then use this art in the story. Itts just making time to get it all done before December.

Don't forget that you already have fans moved over from Talismen. Still, as much as I'd like to buy one (just for the art and support, I've never really used a calendar), I'm not sure creating one would be financially wise just yet. Xylia isn't exactly very well advertised yet, despite Sarah's help.

The digital calendar idea might be worth considering...

Even with pictures I allready know, it would be lovely to see it not only on a computerscreen.

I agree with the comments above. If it`s more work for you, if you have to spoil stuff without you wanting to, then don`t, otherwise I think it`s a geat idea

I reckon the digital calendar is a good idea, like Kez said, then you could choose what to tease us with each month!! What about doing just a Barb Jacobs calendar? Then you wouldn't have to just put Xylia stuff in, and we could get some Tali stuff too!!! I mean, same goes here, if its gonna be too much work, don't do it, but I know that I would DEFINITELY love a Barb calendar!!!

I will think on this whole subject. I will...I have a lot of ideas for Xylia art, its just finding the time to do them. There are a lot of new characters that you all haven't seen that will make neat images There are three other faeries and then of course Deci and Rilly...

I was thinking on this: this story will have a LOT of female characters. Very different from Exile that was almost all male characters.

Anyway, I think a Xylia calendar would do okay simply becuase people like faeries.
I could be wrong of course...
