Ballads

Postby canterrain on Sun Aug 19, 2007 10:35 pm

Zealous asked about ballads! But I didn't want to derail the other topic. So a new one was in order. firstly, my idea of a ballad is somewhat looser than most peoples. I believe in rock ballads! And so on. As long as it's not headache inducing and very nice and mellowing. >>

I'll provide links or videos where I can. But sometimes that's just not available. And sometimes they won't be great videos.. but hey the music is what matters.

For instance, this first one. The video is just the words. But hey, just listen.

This is Selah and Melodie Crittenden singing God blessed the broken roads. You may have heard this sung by Rascal Flatts or Carrie Underwood. I like this version much better.

Come What May from the movie Moulin Rouge. And the Reprise. (though the ending of the reprise is ruined by the events of the movie. Ah well.

I posted this in another thread. But I'm reposting it.

Eva Cassidy's Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

Ari Hest's cover of Hallelujah. Unfortunately the only video I can find isn't very good. Buy it. It's much better that way.

Lifehouse's Everything. Known more for their faster tunes, this one escapes most people I think. Beautiful. Another 'words video'. But it's a good audio.

Now. Forgive me. But for a moment I must show my christian roots. And my deep and fond love for barbershop quartet style singing. But if you absolutely hate christian stuff, don't follow the next few links. If you don't mind and love vocal harmony, or like christian stuff... don't miss these links.

The Katinas. Are.. a group of truly amazing vocal abilities that leave me in awe.

For instance... here's a quick clip of One More Time.

And Thank You. (one of my favorite songs of all time)

I more than suggest that if you ever see it, but the CD Lifestyles by Katinas.

Umm... I have more. But I'm out of time for the moment. Add your own!

Heh, rockballads. I like (yes, I'm ashamed to admit it) Meatloaf, and also Bruce Dickinson, namely Tears of the Dragon. And Moulin Rouge is indeed awesome.

@CT, I love the Thank You song, but wow, that Youtube video just freaks me out. ...never been fond of music videos of any sort though... :/

I'm not a music video person either. But it's the easiest way to post some links to songs without... giving them away. Cause I just don't support that yo. Listen to it, decide if you like it, then maybe buy it? Always been my opinion anyway. >>

But yes, Thank You. Great song. (scary video.. gives me the shivers)

I can dig up some more links though if anyone's interested.

I with Kez Meatloaf, or as my dad calls him Köttlimpa wich is the swedish translation of his name, makes great rockballads.

Here is one of his greatest songs with clips from the disney movie Beauty & The beast. enjoy.
