Claude and Ollie comparison

Claude and Ollie comparison

Postby BarbJacobs on Sun Aug 19, 2007 3:18 pm

A few people have been bringing up Ollie lately, and it made me think about how different the main guys of RoTE and Xylia are. Even though none of you know Claude very well yet, I think you can tell by looking at him that he and Ollie are about as dissimilar as they can possibly be.

When I started Return to Donnelly, Ollie was occasionally (okay frequently) written off in webcomicdom as an 'archtype'. Big, tough, and dumb. I never saw him that way. Okay, he was burly, and tough, but actually pretty clever EXCEPT when it comes to girls. And that is probably the only commonality he has with my new 'hero' Claude. This is where the stereotype played out, because Ollie spent a lot of time trying to figure out Astrina in RoTE I, and did a rather bad job of it. ^_^

Otherwise, Ollie and Claude are nothing alike.

Ollie is an act now, explain later type of guy.
Claude is introspective and methodical.
Ollie was a slob- although the Marines trained that out of him. (note the folded clothes: http://talismenseries.com/d/20050708.html)
Claude is neat and organized by nature.
Ollie is streetwise.
Claude is bookish.
Ollie is ripped.
Claude is lanky and angular.

I suppose the biggest difference is that while they are both 21, Claude is really over 900 years old. That will make you see things a bit differently. ^_^

Well, then there's the nose, too. ha ha ha.

Anyway, Claude is not a replacement for Ollie by any stretch.
Totally different road.
We'll just have to see how this goes.

Ollie was a big softie who played the rough and tough, which made me want to hug him XD

So far, Claude seems much more the traditional, honorable hero. But I don't know him too much yet. It's the sense of humor that always attracts me first. :D

Heee...

we'll just see about that. I think the first page in Chapter 1 will scramble that up a little bit. Maybe not. I just like to shake the snowglobe.

I was thought Ollie was pretty cuddly too. Well, as cuddly as an active Marine whose best friend is trying to kill him can be.

Ollieeee!!

Now that that`s out of the system...
Not really sure which ot the two I prefer because I find them both awesome in their own ways. I mean, Claude has this strange way of coming alive in my head and asking me all theese questions about stuff, whereas Ollie`s only around to be amusing and cool when I want him to be, but my schitzophrenia aside - they are both funky and likeable characters, and I find features about each side of the scale that I like. So a big yay for both of them!

Hmm....I wonder if Claude is able to crack jokes....hopefully I shall find out!

Oh dear. Here we go again with the shaking of the globe thing. I can never tell what your impaling, whats going to happen, who will live & who will die. I always thought I will be a good detective 'cause of all the books & TV I sew on the subject, but Barb, you always surprise me. I stopped even trying to guess- now I just WAIT.

It's a good thing I haven't quit my day job & gone to be a detective- might have missed the big bucks on theatre... funny...ha.. ha ... ha.

*Fan girly sigh* Ollie *takes out a lasso and tries to catch Ollie but misses and see him run of* Oh goosh now I must hunt him down again. *pouts*

But Ollie got a sword, well rather Astrina got a sword that she is letting her beloved hunk of man borrow.

I'm not sure yet. I mean Ollie was my favorite character from RotE and I will always hold a special place for him on the mantle piece. But, I don't really know Claude yet so we'll just have to see.

Although it would be funny to see out of story interaction page between the two. *hint*hint*nudge*nudge*

I'm really looking forward to getting to know Claudius.

*Edit* I just saw the Claude chicken! Hahaha!

Who's calling Ollie dumb?! Why, I oughta.... >.< Grrrrrr.

And I'm biased, so I can't vote on this one. (But if I did, I'd pick...oh, hey, what's that shiny ball over there?)

Ollie was funny enough, but something tells me I'm going to like Claude more. You see, there's an almost visible aura of depth and wisdom around him. I might be wrong, Claude might not be as wise as he seems, but from that description/comparison thingy Barb wrote in the first post, I'm quite certain my hunch is right.

Of course, there's the fact that Steve isn't scripting this thing, it might just screw up something important. But I trust Barb can do it. :)

Claude and Ollie are similar in some respects...

They are both warriors. (That was Claude, pinned to the turf like a dragonfly in a 8th grade science project, right?)

They are both young (Claude is 900 years old, but how many of those years has he actually lived?)

They both have hot girlfriends who they forgot all about.

They both have big, world-saving responsibilities.

I think Claude shares a lot of qualities with both Ollie and his little friend from the first Talismen story, the one who was always getting pounded in Gitmo.

hee hee...nice observations, Belcatar- love the bug pinning reference. Ha!

Actually, there is a major difference in that Claude was a reluctant soldier- drafted as it were- Ollie is a volunteer.

But a lot of the similarites are there. I hope not too many.
